The Bay Area 8 Ballers Coed League has proudly been operating for 15 years. Our teams are located in Alameda, San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley, Oakland, Emeryville, and Berkeley, comprising a total of 12 teams.


If you have a passion for playing pool, join us on Thursday nights when we gather to play. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, you are warmly invited, and there’s award money available at the end of the season. Everyone will get a share of the money back at the conclusion of the season.

This week's answers to the rules asked on Thursday night's game.

 BCA Rules (Billiard Congress of America)

  1. Under BCA rules, scratching (cueball) on a legal break shot means all pocketed balls remain pocketed.

a.  It is a foul, and the table remains open.

b.  The INCOMING PLAYER gets ball-in-hand anywhere on the table. 

   2. Under BCA rules, If the 8 ball is pocketed on the break without scratching:

a.  The PLAYER has the option to either spot the 8 ball and continue shooting or

b.  Rerack and rebreak

   3.  Under BCA rules, If the 8 ball is made but the cue ball scratches:

a.  The OPPOSING PLAYER can choose to spot the 8 ball and take ball in hand

b.  Or rerack and rebreak

   4.  Under BCA rules, if an object ball jumps off the table, it is considered a foul:

a.  The player loses their turn

b.  and any object balls that jumped off are not re-spotted.

c.  The INCOMING PLAYER has the option to

  1. either accept the table in its current position
  2. or take the cue ball in hand behind the head string and shoot

    5.  BCA Frozen Ball Rule:  The SHOOTER AND/OR OPPONENT, must declare that the ball is frozen BEFORE the shooter takes his shot.

    6.  What happens if a shooter accidently causes a ball to fall in the pocket by clothing, hand, body, stick etc., while shooting at another object ball.

           a.  Ball remains in the pocket.  -and-

           b.  Ball-in-Hand foul.  OPPONENT'S turn to shoot.

2026 BCA Rules and Regulations

  • Legal Break Shot?

    1.  The break shot drives any 4 balls to the rail. 

    2.  If the 8 ball goes in a pocket on break without a foul the player can either spot the 8-ball and continue shooting or choose  to rerack and break again.

         

  • Illegal Break Shot?

    1. If the player scratches (cue ball goes into a pocket) on the break 

    2. If 4 balls do not touch a rail (any 4 balls)

    3. Scratching while pocketing the 8-ball results in the opponent having the option to spot the 8-ball and take ball in hand or rerack and break again

  • Frozen Ball?

    A frozen ball must be declared before a shot. 

    Declaration Requirement: 

    The shooter and opponent must agree on whether a ball is frozen.  I there's a dispute, the third party can be consulted

  • Arriving on time?

    Alternate Games Begin at 7:15pm 

    Regular Game Begins at 7:30pm 


    If Late Arrivals:

    Team arrives at 7:46pm (Lose 1st frame of match). 

    Team arrives at 8:01pm (Lose entire match)

  • Coaching?

    1. Coaching is not allowed during play in BCA rules. 

    2. Players are prohibited from receiving coaching while they are taking their shots. 

    3. However, teammates may communicate with each other when it is not their turn to shoot. 

    4. This conversation should not include any form of assistance that might influence the outcome of the game. 

    5. Coaching is defined as any communication of information, whether verbal, nonverbal, or electronic, from someone other than a player’s partner that could help a player gain an advantage or avoid a rules violation.

  • Time Out?

    1. Players are allowed one timeout per match. 

    2. A timeout can only be taken during a player's inning or when it is their turn to break. 

    3. In BCA pool rules, only the player can call a timeout.

    4. Team members and coaches are not permitted to call for a timeout to instruct the player about potential fouls or strategies
